The Poor Knights Islands
Twenty three kilometres off New Zealand’s Tutukaka Coast, the Poor Knights Islands are an international icon. They are the remains of a group of ancient volcanoes. Beneath the waves these volcanoes have been hollowed and shaped by the ocean into a web of caves, tunnels and cliffs which Jacques Cousteau rated as one of the top ten dives in the world. From turbulent sunlit waters and kelp forests on the upper reaches of the tumbling ‘giant staircase’, to the dark waters of the islands’ many caves, the Poor Knights offer an extraordinary variety of underwater experiences, including many species of fish life.
Dive Tutukaka are proud to have a wide range of nationalities in our staff, many of whom have been with us a long time, and all trained to the highest standards. We offer a wide range of PADI dive courses in our private salt water pool, with experienced instructors who have logged thousands of hours underwater. Our instructing staff include marine biologists, naturalists, tech and wreck specialists and award-winning photographers.
