Auckland
The Waitemata Harbour is home to some of the fishing charters in Auckland. Literally 100’s of islands everywhere and a proliferation of inshore species, from the famous hard fighting kingfish to good sized snapper for the dinner table plus kahawai and others. This harbour offers a wide variety of fishing charters in Auckland that offer many and varied experiences. The Manukau Harbour is on Auckland’s West Coast and is a vastly under utilised fishing location. Its tidal range means it’s a lot different to the East Coast, but can be a prolific producer of trophy fish of all species. Being an inner harbour fishery, these fishing charters in Auckland are unlikely to find Game Fish, but further out, they are there in season.

Game fishing for marlin in season is not so far out at sea so it’s amazing one can travel from the middle of a big city, go and catch a marlin, and be back in time for afternoon tea!
Great Barrier Island
On the far reaches of the Hauraki Gulf you find the Great Barrier Island. Some charters operate from here and since it is harder to get to (ferry or local air), the fishing is quite abundant. The local charter boys really know their stuff and where to catch the big ones. mainly out of Tryphena Harbour, but also Port Fitzroy.
